Is Covid-19 Dangerous?

Asking whether the Corona Virus is Dangerous at this point might seem to you like a stupid or even insane exercise. Chances are you probably never actually asked yourself this question. Like most people, including myself, you likely assumed that Covid-19 was dangerous because the main stream media, politicians, your social media feed and nearly everyone else had already come to that conclusion.

What are the conditions that make a virus dangerous? What percentage of people infected does a virus have to kill for you to consider it “lethal” ? What about the percentage of completely healthy people have to die from an infection for it to be considered “dangerous”? Please, think about this question before continuing or doing any research.

Obviously each persons opinion on whether or not a given viral infection is dangerous is their own opinion their individual value preferences. Facts are not arbitrary nor are they negotiable. It is possible for each of us to contrast our opinion regarding when a virus is considered to be dangerous with the data we have on Covid-19.

According to the CDC in the United States there have been 35,392,284 confirmed Covid-19 cases resulting in 612,958 deaths. To calculate the percentage of people who die from Covid-19 we merely divide the number of deaths by the number of cases and multiply by 100.

(612,958 deaths/ 35,392,284 cases ) * 100 = 1.73189 %

Only 1.7% of people who are infected with Covid-19 die, this number includes both healthy people and those who are aged or have per-existing conditions.

According to a study conducted between February and May 2020 the CDC detailed the characteristics of persons who died from Covid-19 in the United States and found that:

Consistent with reports describing the characteristics of deaths in persons with COVID-19 in the United States and China (25), approximately three fourths of decedents had one or more underlying medical conditions reported (76.4%) or were aged ≥65 years (74.8%).

Let us make the assumption that this data is 100% correct and apply it to the data I cited early to determine the percentage of completely healthy people die from Covid-19 relative to the total number of those infected.

To gain an estimate of the percentage completely healthily people who die from the infected population we only need to determine what 25% of 1.7% is. One fourth of 1.7 is 0.425.

Of those infected completely healthy people only account for ~0.425% Covid-19 deaths

Recall the questions I asked early. If you answered anything greater than 1.7% to the first question or anything greater than 0.425% for the second question then you don’t actually believe Covid-19 to be dangerous. If you don’t think Covid-19 is dangerous than what do you really think about the lock downs and vaccine mandates?
